The Memorial was originally established to commemorate British presence in India. At the ground breaking, "Queen Victoria's great-grandson David, Prince of Wales quoted Queen Victoria's proclamation of 1858 about the Indians: 'In their prosperity will be our strength; in their contentment our security; and in their gratitude our best reward.'" (Indian Summer: The Secret History of the End of an Empire). Indian Summer, ironically, goes on to say that the prince's tour "revealed the acute unpopularity of the British in India."
We probably had 30 pictures taken of us today and about half of them asked to be in the pictures with us. A man also told us that former President Bush was "a dictator". Flat out told us that our last president was a dictator... It was rather strange day to say the least. We also, went to St. Paul's Cathedral, which was Beautiful! We went to Fresh and Juicy for dinner and I had some Chicken Tikka Kebabs that were really good.
